Things you should know about windshield repair

Do you know that 7 out of 10 vehicles on the road today receive some type of windshield damage, usually from a small rock or pebble hitting the windshield while driving? With the average cost of a repair being between $45.00 to $65.00 for the first repair and as much as $10.00 to $25.00 for each additional repair, that could be as much as $125.00 in about 20 or 30 minutes. It's important to note that it only costs about $1.00 in materials to do each repair. With an average cost of $55.00 a repair, that is a $54.00 profit in just a few minutes of work. In addition, you can add another 45% profit if you consider the earning potential of multiple stone chips per vehicle, repairing multiple vehicles simultaneously, doing long crack repairs and billing insurance companies.

Stone Damage

When a rock hits a windshield and damage occurs, it creates what many call a stone chip. This may or may not chip away any glass, but creates a void in the first layer of glass, which, if not repaired, may cause further cracking, to the extent that the whole windshield may have to be replaced. Replacement is a far greater expense to the owner than a timely repair. It really is “Cheaper to Repair than Replace!”

Both automobile sales and leasing of vehicles have been at their highest level over the past 10 years. Many families own or lease two or more vehicles per household, and with no sign of this trend slowing down the windshield repair business is booming and will continue to do so. Increasingly, people are finding out about the benefits of windshield repair: its reasonable cost, the way in which it restores the strength and integrity of glass and how it can improve the cosmetic appearance of the windshield.

It’s no wonder more and more people choose to repair than replace. This trend, which has helped our industry grow over the past few years, is estimated to continue to new record highs. As part of the training at the National Windshield Repair Academy we will explain further in detail how to get your windshield repair business to become more profitable.

Our Associations

Over the years the National Windshield Repair Association (NWRA), the National Glass Association (NGA) and numerous dedicated repair professionals from around the country such as the National Windshield Repair Academy (aka, The Crack Doctor Windshield Repair) became involved to help provide input towards developing a national standard for quality. The official standard is now called “Repair of Laminated Auto Glass Standard” (ROLAGS) which was written by the NWRA and the NGA, and is a nationally recognized quality set of standards. These standards must be met in order to receive national certification as well as help to promote consistency in the repair process. After years of hard work by all involved, this standard was reviewed and accepted by the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) and became ANSI/NGA R1.1-2007. Many states and the insurance industry realize the importance of this standard and recommend it be followed and adhered to for all repair technicians.

When you make the decision to become a repair technician it is very important you choose the right training course. The National Windshield Repair Academy’s training goes beyond just the basics that many other schools offer. We offer a higher, more comprehensive level of training. Most training classes only teach you how to repair the two most common repairs. We, at the National Windshield Repair Academy, teach you how to repair all of the most common repairs and even some of the less common ones. Using our StealthOne Technology you will also learn how to repair cracks up to 24 inches. Our equipment is very user-friendly and is used by more professionals around the world than any other bridge and injector system available. Why? Because it works!

If you are serious enough to really want to be your own boss, invest in your future to become a professional windshield repair technician who wants to do high quality repairs with confidence, then you must take the National Windshield Repair Academy’s training course. There is more to our industry and your success than just learning the basics.
